You Talk, We Listen: Northland Grassroots Public Listening Session

Doors open at 9:30am. Pre-event dialogue starts at 10:45.

The Public is Welcome to Attend: Six major topical areas starting at 11am with a hearing panel of private citizens and regional elected officials seated from 11 to 5 pm. 

Each top of the hour topic has a presenter for 10-12 minutes. Citizen presenters are encouraged to select one of the six topics of discussion and preregister for the remaining 54, 3-5 minute topical slots available by sending a letter of intent with name, address, phone number and email contact to "You Talk, We Listen" c/o 8558N County Road K, Hayward, Wisconsin 54843 by March 6th, 2016 or email to skabewis@hotmail.com . Topics Covered Include:

11 am - Specific Groups/Issues: Affordable Health Care Act, Elderly, Women’s Health & Reproductive Rights, Domestic Abuse, Poverty Rates, Veterans, Tribes, Hmong, Hispanics. Leading out this topic will be Yee Leng Xiong, Board Member, DC Everest School District. Followed by Additional Presentations of no more then five minutes.

12 noon - Education: Private Schools, Public Schools, Vouchers, Charter Schools, College & Technical College Tuition, UW-Superior Status. Leading out this topic will be Mary Jarvis. Followed by Additional Presentations of no more then five minutes.

1 pm - Voting Issues: Photo ID, Automated Voter Registration, Citizens United, Move to Amend. Leading out this topic will be Rita Pachal, Wisconsin Move to Amend. Followed by Additional Presentations of no more then five minutes.

2 pm - Sustainability Issues: Family Farms, Cooperatives, Small and Family Business, Water, Soil, Forestry, Living Wages, Employment & Labor. Leading out this topic will be (Pre-Recorded) Tony Schultz - Stony Acres Farms, Medford, WI. Followed by Additional Presentations of no more then five minutes.

3 pm - Local Control Issues: Shoreline Ordinances, Water Quality, CAFO’s, Pipeline Safety, Infrastructure, Transportation, High Speed Internet, Counties and Municipalities. Leading out this topic will be Carl Whiting, PhD, Co-Founder of Wisconsin Safe Energy (WISE) Alliance. Followed by Additional Presentations of no more then five minutes.

4 pm - Environmental Justice: Northern Wisconsin’s Mining District, Use of Natural Resources, Water Usage & Quality, Soil Conservation, Sand Mining, Pipeline Safety. Leading out this topic will be Mike Wiggins, Former Chairman Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Followed by Additional Presentations of no more then five minutes.
